Day 01 – Cyan Crystal Vibration
Image focused in camera, then photo taken with subtle movement of both the crystal and camera – the vibration created a softened effect without truly taking the image out of focus. The light was a cool tone in the original photo and a cyan blue tint was added after.

Here are 2 other images from the same day of the same crystal – without the cyan filter – from different angles. – The first one is basically still, the second has some vibration.

Day 02 – Flame in Motion
The image is of small blue flames flickering on a smooth surface. There are quite a few images that did not make the final cut, since just one daily image could be picked, but had taken at least 7 to 8 dozen shots. Some of my favorites, plus quite a few of the more interesting ones are below. (Keep scrolling down, eventually it gets to Day 03 . . . ..)!

Day 03 – Autumn Stained Glass in Motion
The light being shone through the stained glass created luminumbra patterns on the blank paper. (Luminumbra is a term I coined several years ago referring to the light, shadow, color or pattern created when light shines through a translucent object onto a blank surface). The subtle movement of the stained glass, caught at a fairly high shutter speed, along with movement of the light source, seems to liquify the glass and luminumbra. The effect is similar to bordered fragments of glowing liquid with the sort of reflections sometimes cast by swimming pools, but in autumn tones.

Day 04 – Twigs in Wind – Cool
Taken outdoors, with a cool tone applied to the image. You can see multiple or “shadow” images of the twigs caught in motion with a slower shutter speed. Below are additional images, using deliberate motion taken the same day, but without the cool blue tone applied.

Day 05 – Tiny Stars in Wind
This image is of tiny, almost star-like flowers in my backyard. It was a windy day, but I also moved the lacy plant for extra motion. There are duplicate lines of the stems and blurring of the star-like flowers due to the motion.

Day 06 – Playful Motion
This image was taken at my back door – the metal art piece with a Tibetan bell that I picked up from Beyond Dimensions a long while ago is swinging – you can see the motion of the bell and the spiral wires. A slight water spots/grunge filter was applied later just for fun to emphasize the playfulness.

Day 07 – Lines in Wind
This was taken on another windy day – the clouds were moving and power or phone lines swaying in the wind. The duplicate or “shadow” lines created by their movement give a sense of vibration, almost like strummed strings of a guitar or harp. The early evening and overcast air was fairly dark – for the chosen image, I lightened the highlights and upped the contrast to emphasize the cloud movement. Below are a few other images taken the same day, but without the lightness or contrast increased.

Day 08 – Fir Trees in Motion
These are fir trees near my side yard. I experimented with movement of the camera, ICM, adjusting shutter speed and etc, to create a sort of dreamy effect.

Day 09 – Curtain Tassel in Motion
This is a curtain pull tassel that I have hanging from a brass reading floor lamp between the bookcase and couch in the living room. This was a fun one! – so many interesting images. A sort of fabric and scratches filter was applied to this one afterwards to give it a sort of vintage look. Quite a few examples of other images taken the same day are below. Some include the bookcase and others focus on just the curtain pull swinging past the wall.

Day 10 – Cat Toy 1
This is one of my cat’s toys at high speed.

Day 11 – Cat Toy 2
Cat Toy 1 was interesting – so did it a second time with a different cat toy. The green cord and purple feathers when in motion almost look like an inverted flower in the wind.

Day 12 – ICM Rolling Clouds
A piece of my fused vinyl artwork photographed with subtle swirling motion catching the reflected light and colors.

Day 13 – Dragon Flight
I have a stained glass dragon from Beyond Dimension gallery hanging from the ceiling fan in the room past the living room french doors. Light catches the glass and motion is caught in duplicate or “shadow” line, color and reflection.

Day 14 – Light Trails Aqua
Photo of teal ceramic and glass items displayed on a shadowed bookcase with extreme intentional camera movement. The bits of light catching the objects created light trail effects pulled by the rapid motion.

Day 15 – Light Trails Playful Neon
Photo using similar technique as previous day – this time different objects created a different pattern caused by glints of light caught by the lens as the camera moved rapidly with slow shutter speed.

Day 16 – Light Trails Figure in Blue
Another ICM abstraction image – the blurred reflections and trails remind me of a figure wearing vivid blue with a white bag near a dark doorway reflecting rain and streetlights.

Day 17 – Lamp Base Detail Long Exposure
Bronzed metal table lamp with a hallow design of twirling lines – photo taken with very long exposure and rotating slowing around the base to show different angles. Left unaltered, long exposures usually have warm, almost fiery tones, which were left deliberately as is for this image. The twisting form and fiery tones give an almost flame like flickering aspect enhanced by rotating motion during the shot.

Day 18 – Pendant in Motion
A pendant hanging on a jewelry display above my dresser was photographed with movement of both the display stand and the camera. The effect of interlocking lines and duplicate instances blurred, yet clearly focused, is a sort of elegant multiple vision. The pendant was from an Etsy seller several years ago I cannot find there now, but if I get any info on them, will post it later. ..

Day 19 – Ceiling Fan
Image of a small ceiling fan at the stop of the stairs in the area connecting the hallway and bathroom where the blurring of the fan blades creates and almost feathered look.
Day 20 – Day 24: With the concept of doing a series of object studies of the same object photographed over multiple days, a purple glass vase with a fascinating rippled texture was selected. The five object studies are of luminumbras created by the object – and/or the object itself. (Luminumbra – term I coined years ago to refer to nebulous lines and patterns created by light cast through translucent objects).

Day 20 – Luminumbra Object Study 1
Almost absolute stillness, virtually zero motion – even in “stillness” light is moving at the speed of light streaming through the vase or at least minute movements of the photographer.

Day 24 – Luminumbra Object Study 5
Deliberate ICM and longer exposure forming luminous patterns of color light and shadow.
NOTE: Check back later – I plan to add some more of the other images taken of this object later . . . .. !

Day 25 – Yellow Tulips
This is an ICM photo of yellow tulips friends had give us. Deliberate stokes of movement are employed to create an almost painterly impressionistic effect through intentional camera movement.

Day 26 – Scarf 1
Motion of the scarf is captured with the blurred and duplicated lines and the softening of the details in areas. The light-weight, almost gauzy material catches the light and motion.

Day 27 – Scarf 2
The fascinating play of motion and color in Scarf 1 inspired a continuation – this time with another scarf, this one of silk ice-dyed and purchased from an artist at the Newark Arts Alliance a couple years ago. The vivid, colors of the scarf almost bleed further into each other and the air around them with the motion.

Day 28 – Scarf 3
A third scarf – this one with woven patterns and colors, in motion, with just a bit of the tassels showing. Other images taken the same day this scarf showed more dramatic movement, but the almost painterly effect of more subtle motion in this image is evocative.

Day 29 – Scarf 4
Another ice-dye silk scarf, also purchased a year or two ago at the Newark Arts Alliance – this one in tones of blue, violet blue and aqua. The cream stone tiles of kitchen and nook area form a sort of parchment or stone wall like backdrop.

Day 30 – Scarf 5
Another scarf, also from the Newark Arts Alliance, with ice dyed burn-out silk in swirling patterns of white, violet, blue and green against translucent silk background.
NOTE: Check back later – I plan to add some more of the other images taken of the scarves later . . . .. !

Day 31 – Hand in Liquid Light
The scarves were utterly wondrous in motion, but for the last day, I wanted to do something different I had been considering for a bit – this image is a photo of my hand in motion – against the backdrop of a large computer screen with a video of water, also in motion .. . . the effect is rather interesting . .. .
